And the Learning Continues....in the real world

Once again our program had the opportunity to take our students in the field for some hands on learning. We have been very fortunate that Dowler - Karn in St Thomas Ontario once again provided our students with a tour and an education about their facilities. We toured the propane and fuel facility on Talbot and then proceeded to the propane rail transfer facility and DK Lubricants facility on South Edgeware.

This field trip supports the learning they've received in FIRE-3002 - Hazardous Materials where the students are taught NFPA 472, the 2016 ERG and the essentials for fire service personal in responding to or working around Hazardous Materials.

Knowing that fuel dispensing/storage/handling facilities are locations the students will encounter in their career in Fire Prevention - we are able to provide our students with the ability to experience these locations so as to be prepared for when they have to actually inspect them for code compliance. By knowing how these locations operate, what commodities they deal with and how to inspect them in a safe and effective manner sets our students up to for success in providing the best they can for their community's fire and life safety
