So we're halfway through the summer already and a little over a month before school starts. This year is exciting as it will be our first time with 3 cohorts going through including the anticipation of having our first crew of graduates next spring. Development of the courses continues and we've got some top-notch professors joining the program for the fall. The summer has been busy with work on the program, enjoying the pool and attending events like the Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) Southwest Chapter Technical Seminar on June 7th where I presented on Code Enforcement and how it affects the Fire Alarm Industry. This topic was very on point - the day before I presented, news broke in Toronto about fraudulent practices and the reality that buildings presumed to be safe....weren't. Here's the link from Toronto Sun:
City auditor general "raising the alarm" over fire inspections
The City of Toronto spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on a private vendor that failed to prove it properly inspected life saving systems like sprinklers and fire alarms, yet city staff continued to defend and use the company even after warnings were issued.
This is an example of what's been going on for too long and the Fire Inspection & Fire Safety Education students we're teaching today will be prepared to deal with it when it's their turn to be fire and life safety professionals.

So with the hot dry summer we've had so far, stay fire safe and stayed tuned for more blog.
Frank
